                                                              Removing Red Meat

Jenna Roberts, Author of The Food Revolution revealed that eliminating meat can increase life expectancy by 8-10 years. Cutting back on meat is one of the most powerful changes any person can make. Reducing or even completely eliminating the amount of meat consumed makes a person healthier, reduces the amount of pollution in the environment, saves animals from the torture of mass slaughter, and also reduces the amount of wasted food that goes towards feeding animals (Cows eat enoug prepared food to feed 8.2 billion people).

The first point to consider is that protein cannot be stored in the body. This means any amount of meat greater than 5 oz. will be stored in the body as fat. It is now known that there is a direct correlation between meat consumption and the prevalence of both heart disease and cancer (300% increase in colan cancer).  Furthermore, protein from meat is very hard for the body to digest. Because of this, excess consumption of meat can become petrified and left in the body which eventually causes toxic buildup which frequently leads to cancer.

Unless the meat consumed is organic, the animal on your dinner plate has lived its entire life in its own feces and is filled with drugs necessary to keep them alive until they reach the slaughter house (24 million pounds of antibiotics are given to animals each year). Most captive chickens live their entire life in a one square foot space, about the size of a book cover. Most of these chickens are unable to support their own weight by the time they are killed. Even when it comes to pigs, more than 70% have pneumonia at the time they are slaughtered. Approximately 89% of all milk products in the US have the leukemia virus and approximately 77% of breast cancer patients have high amounts of this virus in their tumor. Eating these diseased and chemical latent animals causes the body to be filled with unwanted bacteria, antibiotics, dioxins, toxins, and growth hormones which build up in the body with continued consumption.

some_text        Another aspect to consider is the environmental and global impact that meat consumption carries. Producing one pound of meat requires 36.4 pounds of carbon dioxide. That is equivalent to driving for 2 hours in the car while leaving all of the lights on back at home. The United Nations even stated that meat production surpasses the entire transportation industry in CO2 production. The reason so much carbon dioxide is produced is because these animals are contained and the food has to be brought to them. The food these animals eat must be produced, harvested, and transported to the animals throughout their entire life. Live stock alone consume enough food to feed 8.2 billion people and requires more than eight times as much water as plant production. This grain can be produced in such massive quantities that it is still cheaper to feed the cows and load them with growth hormones and antibiotics than allowing them to grass feed.

No matter which perspective is considered, reducing the amount of meat consumed will make an enormous impact. Whether you care for yourself, your family, the environment, or the animals, this step will make
a difference and make you feel better about yourself both physically and mentally. We recommend complete removal of meat, but if removal isn’t an option than try reducing meat consumption to no more than three times a week with no more than 5 oz per meal.
