3-Red Wine
(The 2nd activator of the Longevity Gene Sir1)

A Dutch study, taking place over a 40 year time period found that regularyly consuming red wine increases one’s life expectancy by 5 years. The study shows that not only did wine add years, but so did all other alcoholic beverages in moderation. The key to this step is only found in moderation. Women should have between 10 – 12 grams of alcohol (4 oz of wine), and men should have between 20 – 24 grams (approx 8 oz of wine). Make sure you consider your weight when referencing which amount you should consume. If you’re smaller then go with the lower range (Refer to bottom of page for alcohol content per drink).
MSN posted an article stating that it has been well documented that moderate amounts of alcohol do benefit you’re body in many ways. Alcohol will help with –
- Diabetes (University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna)
- Heart disease (Prevents blood clotting and plaque in arteries, MSN)
- Cancer (Reservatrol, MSN)
- Stabilizing weight (for both overweight and underweight)
- Increase aerobic capacity (Better HDL Cholesterol, MSN)
- Slows the natural loss of mental functions that come from age (Dutch Study)
Due to all of these benefits, almost any person at any (legal) age will gain from this step. Even the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism states that one study proved those who consumed less than three drinks a day were less likely to die within the next 12 years. The Cancer Research Center of Honolulu gave a figure of approximately 18% decrease in mortality from any cause from moderate consumption.
Although this step will benefit almost anyone, I strongly recommend this to those over the age of 40 as a way to help keep mentality alive while helping to stabilize weight and avoid heart disease. Weight at this age will have an enormous impact on your overall health and mobility in the later years of your life. Alcohol consumption is proven to slow the mental decay for both conscious thinking and motor skills. Brigham and Women's Hospital doctor states that those who drink have a much greater chance of maintaining weight than those who abstain (Reuters). Keep in mind that wine is a way to stabilize weight, not lose it. According to WebMD, one pound of body weight adds four extra pounds of pressure to the knees with every step taken. This additional pressure will wear out joints very quickly which can cause physical complications and pain in the years to come. Wine's help with both weight control and brain function will result in an extended life with more mobility, a reduced chance of age related mental illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, and a decreased chance of developing almost every other disease (Especially if wine helps with weight control).
With all the alcoholic beverages out there what is it that puts wine on top? This comes from the non-alcohol nutrients that wine contains. Wine has phytochemicals such as flavanoids and reservatrol* that act as antioxidants in the body. Reservatrol is the only known substance for delaying the aging process by activating the SIR 1 (longevity) gene. These nutrients prevent free-radicals from damaging cells. Some of the antioxidants found in wine can’t be found anywhere else. This is what makes wine the healthiest drink on earth. For those that don’t prefer wine; reservatrol can also be found in pill form. (Below are wines with very high concentrations of these phytochemicals as well as the concentrated pill forms)
Wine can be the easiest addition to your new life. It is simple to take, most people enjoy it, and it also has relaxing benefits. However, just because this is a miracle drink doesn’t mean you need to consume large amounts.

Beer (12 ounces) contains 12–14 grams of alcohol
Light beer (12 ounces) contains 10–12 grams of alcohol
