1-Cutting Back

(Refer to step three for the second longevity gene activator)

The calorie-restriction diet has recently been named
the “Longevity Diet.” Dr. Roy Walford of the University of
California at Los Angeles has found the longevity that this
lifestyle alteration can offer is one of the only two methods that
have been proven to activate the SIR1 gene; also referred to as
  the
Longevity Gene. The Salk Institute quotes, “In studies going
back to the 1930's, mice and many other species surviving
on a calorie-restricted diet have consistently outlived their
well-fed peers by as much as 40 percent.”

The only aspect you need to change in this step is your
dishes, silverware, and most importantly, your mindset. By
changing the dishes you eat off of and the silverware you use, you can drop up to 30% of what you eat from every meal without even realizing it. These facts are shown through the Wansink Experiment from Cornell University. Statistically you will decrease the consumption by:

Subconsciously Reduce Calories
     Use                       Instead of              Caloric reduction

Short Wide Glass
(Excluding Water)

Tall Thin Glass 20-30% reduction
17oz bowl 34oz bowl 30% reduction
10 inch plate 12 inch plate 22% reduction

The above alterations will primarily come on a subconscious level. If it were then be made with
a conscious effort then the results will be improved that much more. The two subsequent steps to concentrate on; not refilling your plate and drinking water out of the tall-thin glass while everything else goes into a short-wide one. This will allow for a drastic calorie cut and should be the first attempt in this calorie restriction. Another helpful method to incorporate is using smaller silverware when eating. This will cause you to eat slower and give your body the time to tell you that you’re full.

We also need to realize that food is a source of energy, not pleasure. Too often we feel tired after eating instead of feeling the energy that food is supposed to bring us. Cutting back will bring forth the energy gained from food and will also decreas the times you feel like taking a nap following a meal. You're body is actually stronger when less food is eaten. A well educated doctor will tell you to cut calories when sick and will even suggest severe restrictions with major illnesses such as cancer. This is due to the fact that it requires a tremendous amount of energy to digest food along with a relocation of blood to the digestive system. Lower calories will also help activate the immune system to fight off the illness.

The USDA shows that the average person in America consumes approximately 2,700 calories a day. However, the average male only needs around 1,800 calories, and a female needs approximately 1,200 calories to gain all the nutrients necessary for health. These statistics reveal the need to cut at least a third of our current caloric intake to reach these healthy levels. The average American currently eats 2,175 pounds per year. This 30% decrease would allow each person to reduce their yearly food intake by over 650 pounds. That is more than 255,000 calories or 73 pounds of body fat (3,500 calories = 1 pounds of body fat) lost in a single year. We realize most don’t need to lose 73 pounds, but what this diet will result in is maintaining an ideal body weight once all the extra pounds are lost. Unlike conventional dieting, this weight, health, and longevity will then be held for life.

cutting back  From a financial perspective, the average American making $30,000 a year will spend $375 per month on food. A cut of 30% in food will save nearly $1,400 after one year. In a family of four, the savings will easily reach $5,200 each year. This is a large amount of money that a now healthier family can use for their next vacation.

This diet is by no means starving yourself. The 30% decrease in consumption is what a human is meant to consume. This concept is not meant just for those who are overweight. When one eats too many calories their cells are flooded with glucose which causes them to die quicker and in turn, causes you to die quicker regardless of your weight. Also, when avoiding food between meals you will allow your body to detoxify itself and also slow down metabolism. Both of which will cause longevity to build even further. Eating fewer calories delays the onset of many age related diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease (Heart Attacks), brain atrophy, and many more. Holding a healthy weight gives you a 300% less chance of even developing these diseases at any given point from that factor alone. As for the later years in your life this diet will preserve many vital parts of the brain responsible for motor control and other executive functions due to the fact that individual cells haven’t been overworked and your body is overall, healthier.

This is a very simple step but we feel it is the most vital to longevity. All food has calories so no matter how healthy your diet may be; overeating will make it nearly impossible to keep the body weight you want. Last but not least, don’t make this a diet but a lifestyle. Too frequently we hear someone say they are on a "diet." Sure a diet will change your weight for now, but it won’t give you the opportunity to change your life forever.

Note: Chances are you will feel a little hungrier in-between meals when starting out this program. Refer to step 4 for solution you should enjoy.
