Vitamin D
Vitamin D
(Almost 60% of hospital patients are vitamin D deficient)
Vitamin D is one of the greatest preventative vitamins known to man. This vitamin is found in much more than just milk. It can also be found in very large amounts in many sea foods, eggs, cod liver supplements (greatest concentration), soy/coconut/almond milk, and mushrooms. Since this nutrient is so vital the health it is extremely important to reach at least 1,000 IU a day. If your diet doesn't provide adaquate amounts then a supplement is almost mandatory. Supplements can include cod liver and D3 tablets. This nutrient is known to help in prevent…

- Obesity*
- Adrenal Insufficiency (results in bodily weaknesses)

- Depression
As you can see, every disease on this site is covered by that list. In other words, Vitamin D can help prevent any of the deadliest illnesses in America. We also think it's important to show the link cholesterol has with vitamin D. It has been shown that cholesterol is directly responsible for the creation of Vitamin D. In order for this vitamin to be produced in the body you need three things; cholesterol, Vitamin D, and sunlight. Most people don’t realize this correlation so they fail to receive the necessary amount of vitamin D.
No matter what you have heard; cholesterol is an extremely important part of your diet and is too beneficial to your body to avoid. According to health practitioner, Justin Smith, a cholesterol deficiency actually increases the chances of developing heart disease and stroke more than high cholesterol levels. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition calls these findings the “American Paradox” due to the fact that there has never been solid evidence to correlate excess cholesterol with any illness. This is one reason that statins (Cholesterol lowering drugs) should be avoided. These medications can cause the liver to lower the production of all cholesterol and take the body to unhealthy levels.
Knowing that, the two main diseases that cholesterol is supposed to cause; Heart disease and strokes, are actually increased by lowering cholesterol levels and taking statin drugs. The medicine we are put on to lower cholesterol levels also increases the probability of developing a third illness, diabetes. One final touch, low cholesterol levels also increase the chances of osteoporosis and also increase the chances of being overweight which causes a greater probability of developing even more illnesses.
It’s important to realize that cholesterol levels are also dependent on the color of your skin. The darker the skin the more cholesterol needed to produce Vitamin D because the sun can’t penetrate the skin as easily. The final step in Vitamin D production comes from direct sunlight. It is important to try receiving at least 15 minutes of direct sunlight onto the skin each day. This can come from as little sun as you would get from a 15 minute walk while wearing a t-shirt and pants. You don’t need excessive amount of sunlight to create the Vitamin D, but you do need the right amount of cholesterol and Vitamin D in the diet to make this happen.
Action guide:
- Don’t avoid cholesterol
* Avoid Statin drugs unless a doctor says it’s absolutely necessary to save your life. - Eat foods with high amounts of Vitamin D
- Dairy, fish, and Eggs
- If those foods aren’t an option; a Vitamin D supplement is mandatory
- At least 15 minutes of sunlight each day and for darker skin add 5+ minutes
- Avoid sunscreen unless outside long enough to get burnt
- Then use all-natural sunscreen (Normal sunscreen has chemicals proven to cause cancer), or hat/umbrella, or long loose clothing.
- If you aren’t getting burnt (no matter how long you’re in the sun) then sunscreen is unnecessary. Blacks in America have a greater risk for cancer than in Africa where they spend a majority of their time outside because we use so many skin products in America.
- If we didn't absorb these chemicals then why would we also put nutrients into lotions? Our skin is an organ and absorbs the dangerous chemicals in normal sunscreen.
Your body works the way it does for a reason. We shouldn’t fight nature and take medication to offset this balance. It's much more important to find what factor is causing this imbalance and correcting it.
