Omega 3
Omega 3
(Massachusetts General Hospital finds fish oil to be more effective than Prozac at fighting depression and Metagenics found that 1-gram of omega 3 prevents 90% of heart disease)
Not all fats are the same. The concept of fats being unhealthy is in a sense, false. When one consumes a wide range of fats then there is not much to worry about when it comes to the intake of fat. As for Project Million, we would recommend choosing fat calories over sugar in almost all circumstances. There are two primary types of fat; omega 6 and omega 3. Omega 3 is the fat found in fish, vegetables, seeds, and nuts and is extremely beneficial to one’s health. The problem is that our Western diets have approximately 15 times more omega 6 as compared to the omega 3 fats, with more than a quarter of the population consuming no significant source of healthy fats. Here are a few examples of the benefits of spreading out the fats consumed and some steps to take in adding more healthy fats into the diet.
It is recommended that one sees a a more balanced consumption of omega 3 (1-3 grams p/day) and 6 (60 grams p/day) due to the negative influence of omega 6 on the body. Omega 6 fats are found to increase weight and also carry carcinogenic (cancer causing) traits. Increasing omega 3’s will decrease the chance of developing cancer, heart disease, blindness, and mental degenerative disorders. Following is a list of how Omega 3 helps to prevent an illness.
- Cancer: due to the decrease in omega 6 (proven in breast/prostate cancers)
- Heart disease: from anti-inflammation, blood thinning, slowed heart rate, and blood
vessel flexibility from increased healthy fats
- Eye health: due to a 40-45% decrease in macular degeneration which is now the
leading cause of blindness in America.
- Mental Degeneration: due to the prevention of protein buildup in the brain which is
associated with Alzheimer's (39% decrease) and dementia (47% decrease).
- Stroke: By lowering bad cholesterol and decreasing unwanted blood clots
- Mental functions: Due to it's decrese in depression and Attention deficit disorder
- Sickness: Due to it's role in immune system health
- Joint pain: Helps to lubricate joints
Another large factor associated with these fats are the benefits the bring on your appearance. The Omega 3's help
- Eyes appearance.
- Skin color and softness which will also affect the look of hair and nails.
- Teeth due to it's assistance in preventing gum disease.

If you are capable, both mentally and financially, then fish should be the primary source of this fat. Make sure the fish have scales (excludes tuna, shark, and shellfish) and are not farm raised. Avoiding those types of fish will keep out unwanted toxins with mercury being the most prominent. Alternatively, one should consider two previous options included within Project Million; eggs and nuts. Both contain many alternative nutrients on top of the fats. Finally, there are many sources of plant based omega 3 such as flaxseed, avocado, and coconut. If you want to be assured that you receive the necessary amount (1,000 - 3,000 mg) of these fats then you can incorporate one of our supplements into your diet. These don’t necessarily need to be taken daily if you are able in include large amounts of the previous suggestions into your diet.
